"Reacher" Season 3 continues to do justice to Lee Childs character.

DERRICK DUNN

Alan Richson is back on the case for the third season of the popular Prime series Reacher. Showrunner Nick Santora has adapted Lee Child's seventh Reacher book, "Persuader," for this season's storyline.

Teaming up with DEA agent Susan Duffy (Sonya Cassidy), Reacher (Ritchson) hurtles into the dark heart of a vast criminal enterprise led by Zachary Beck (Anthony Michael Hall) when trying to rescue an undercover DEA informant whose time is running out. There, he finds a world of secrecy and violence—and confronts some unfinished business from his past.

I'm in the minority of fans who didn't mind Tom Cruise's take on Jack Reacher, and that could be because I had never read any of the source material. However, since season one of the show, Alan Ritchson has won me over as the definitive Reacher in physical media. Season 3 is full of twists and turns, so I want to keep my review as brief and spoiler-free as possible.

Season 3 of Reacher sets the plot quickly, with Reacher using his skill set before taking a direction that I didn't see coming, which I'm sure fans will appreciate. One of the casting choices for this season was Anthony Michael Hall. Although the former brat pack member distanced himself from his teen movie roles decades ago, seeing him play a heavy was great.

British actress Sonya Cassidy is also suitable as Susan Duffy.  Cassidy gives off the right amount of sex appeal and is an alpha female who is willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Her chemistry with Ritchson is organic, as is her Boston accent. Johnny Berchtold is also solid as Richard, the son of Hall's character with whom Reacher befriends. While Olivier Richters, Ronnie Rowe, and Donald Sales all make for members of Beck's crew. It was also great to see Maria Sten return as Reacher's longtime friend Maria Sten.

I do have to inform the action junkies know that the fisticuffs and gun battles are somewhat spread out over the season, but when they do happen, they are good. Reacher Season 3 delivers all the good of the previous entries and continues to solidify Ritchson as a modern action hero.

Final Grade: A-

The first three episodes of Reacher Season 3 will arrive on Prime Video tomorrow. New episodes will be added every Thursday through March 27, 2025.
