Concert Review : Adam Blackstone @ The Kennedy Center

On the evening of Friday, March 8th, acclaimed bassist, musician, and Grammy award winner Adam Blackstone and his talented band presented The Legacy Experience at The Club at Studio K, a small and intimate venue located at The Kennedy Center. Mr. Blackstone has earned a reputation as a mastermind behind the live shows of today's biggest acts, including Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys, and Maroon 5.

Having previously experienced Mr. Blackstone's musical direction in televised events such as The Oscars®, the Grammy Awards®, and NBA All-Star Weekend, I was eagerly anticipating an opportunity to witness his talent in a live setting. The show opened with a captivating three-peat groove that provided each band member with an opportunity to exhibit their instrumental prowess. The band seamlessly transitioned into renditions of R&B classics such as "What's Going On," "Lovely Day," and even hinted at Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke." The performance received a highly enthusiastic response from the audience, and the energy remained consistently elevated throughout the show.

Mr. Blackstone then let the audience know he brought some friends along, and the audience was in for a treat. First was Charm City natives Winslow Dynasty, who performed the inspirational Hip Hop and Gospel bop "Raised". It wouldn't be an Adam Blackstone show/ without a performance of the Grammy-nominated "Round Midnight." Fresh off supporting Queen Bey's "Renaissance" World Tour Kay Manée filled in for Jazmine Sullivan, vocally bringing the house down and following it up with a lush cover of "Sweet Love."

Star in the making Gabby Sammone was next to take the stage, and she took to church performing "Better" and "4 Women Kings". Grammy and Academy Award-nominee Dixon was the last featured act of the night, performing a soulful medley that encompassed "Just The Two Of Us" and "Good Kisser." For his final number, Dixson musically seduced the ladies in attendance with a cover of "Untitled (How Does It Feel)."

The show concluded with a lively performance of "Yearning For Your Love," where Blackstone and his band brought the entire audience to their feet. One thing is certain: I'll attend any time Adam Blackstone performs in the nation's capital.

Final Grade: A.
